NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Saturday’s Harvest Fest and Trunk-or-Treat was a fantastic evening of fun and community-building! The costumes were exceptionally creative, and the lip sync competition and band were AMAZING. This annual event is made possible only by the diligent, selfless effort of our parent and student volunteers. Thank you to everyone who put in time and monitored the various stations of the festive grounds. Special thanks to our PTO Harvest coordinators, Erica Seidel and Julie Morris, and PTO committee members. This incredible team worked countless hours planning and organizing the event for the sheer joy of building school community.
Today is the official end of the 1st trimester and Parent-Teacher Conferences are next week. Make sure you have signed up! See below for more details.
We are gearing up for our accreditation visit and November Open House. A team of Phoenix Catholic school administrators and teachers led by Linda Norman, Superintendent of the Santa Rosa (California) Diocese will be visiting our campus on November 9, 10, and 11. They will be attending morning prayer, visiting classrooms, and consulting students, parents, and faculty to confirm that St. John Bosco is meeting and/or exceeding the WCEA Accreditation standards.
At the end of the week on Friday, November 11, we will celebrate Veterans Day with our annual flag ceremony and Mass. After Mass, our School Board members and Campus Ambassadors will give tours to prospective families.

Universal ESA Update
We are positively thrilled with the overwhelming response to the ESA program and that so many families are taking advantage of it to reduce their tuition!
Mrs. Kelly McLean is working feverishly to process these contracts in the order received. If you have signed your ESA contract, it is imperative that you forward a copy to Kelly so she can determine active dates and help you receive the maximum possible funding.
AFTER you have sent your contract:
- STO funds will be removed from your account and sent back to the originating STO. Your STO funds will NOT be removed until a signed copy of your contract is received;
- Your FACTS account will be adjusted to reflect quarterly payments;
- You will receive invoices to upload to Classwallet. when your funds are available.
- When you send your signed contract to us, please indicate the date you submitted your application so that we can determine which quarters you will be receiving ESA funds. Applications submitted to ESA after 10/15/22 are not eligible for 1st Quarter (Q1) funding.
Thank you for your patience while we wade through the stacks to process your contract and send you your invoices.
If your ESA contract exceeds what you have paid directly to SJB (non-scholarship), we will issue a refund to you after we have received payment from Classwallet.
We are an authorized vendor through Classwallet. Our vendor name is St John Bosco Catholic School (no period after the St). Please look at the Classwallet information page at https://www.azed.gov/esa
If you use the ESA program, make sure to review the ESA Parent Handbook and become familiar with the program rules and regulations. Compliance with the program rules is the responsibility of the parent. Noncompliance, especially if attempting to use ESA and STO in the same quarter, will result in the parent being banned from the ESA program and responsible for paying funds back to the state.
Uniforms, Sweatshirts, etc.
As the weather gets cooler, your child may want to wear a sweatshirt/sweat jacket and pants instead of shorts or a skirt. Please refer to pages 21 and 22 in the Parent/Student Handbook for a handy chart that explains everything. Please remember that students are only allowed to wear an SJB sweatshirt or sweat jacket in the classroom.
Conferences are next week! Have you signed up with your child(ren)'s teacher(s)?
A sign-up genius was emailed 3 weeks ago. If you did not sign up yet, please do so ASAP. Fall conferences are required for all students.
Parent-Teacher Conference days and times will be as follows:
- Wednesday, November 2nd: 1:15 – 4:15 PM
- Thursday, November 3rd: 1:15 – 7:00 PM
- Friday, November 4th: 1:15 – 4:15 PM

Scholastic Book Fair Is Back!
October 31–November 4
M–W: 7:30 AM–3:30 PM
Thurs: 7:30 AM–6:00 PM
Friday: 7:30 AM–1:00 PM
Our school will celebrate the power of reading at the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. You are invited to help our school create a culture of reading, build our school libraries, and have the opportunity to shop and select books with your child for your home library! A portion of all the proceeds will go back to our school – your support makes a huge difference.

Want to unload some candy and help SJB?
Woolaver Orthodontics is offering a Candy Buy Back Fundraiser. Drop off your candy at Woolaver Nov. 1st or 2nd between 8 AM and 5 PM. Mention SJB and our school receives a $1/lb donation. If you can’t make it to the office, you may deposit your unwanted candy in the box outside the SJB front office. The school with the highest participation wins a $250 donation! All candy will be donated to our very deserving military troops.
Day of the Dead
To celebrate the Day of the Dead (All Souls’ Day), Sra. Bautista and her students set up an ofrenda (altar) in the chapel as they have done the last few years. This reverent celebration continues to be one of her students' favorite Spanish class activities.
If you have not sent in a picture of your deceased loved one for us to honor on our altar, please do so ASAP. Send in copies only (not originals) and label with your child’s name and classroom. Please contact Sra. Bautista with further questions.
Running with Rosco
SJB is holding its Annual Running with Rosco fun run fundraiser on Wednesday, November 23rd. We will kick off the morning with a pep rally featuring Rosco the Bulldog and other mascot friends! Students, faculty, and parents will then be invited to run laps by grade level with Rosco.
All students and staff will receive a free Running with Rosco T-shirt to wear on the event day and may also be worn on Wednesday spirit days throughout the school year. Please submit your T-shirt order via our Order Form by Friday, Nov. 4th.
Would you like to be involved with PTO? Mark your calendar for our next meeting on Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00 PM in the SJB Library. And don't forget, Family Movie Night is coming up on Friday, November 11. (details below)
